About
Mission Statement
F.R.E.E. is a progressive, non-partisan collective that strives to incite change and raise awareness in our community through the distribution of informative materials, social activism and open dialogue.
History
F.R.E.E. was born two years ago when a conversation between Shanthony Exum & Melissa Melvin revealed their shared passion for social activism & political awareness. They sought out other open-minded people, whose passions were often different than theirs, to engage in free & honest dialogue.
F.R.E.E.’s first meetings were casual discussions, which took place at the Werehouse in downtown Winston-Salem. Since 2007, they have sponsored two major events:
•Eco Films-paired with a local chapter of the Sierra Club to show free screenings of eco-friendly documentaries within the community.
•Cover the Uninsured- an informative sidewalk demonstration featuring some of Winston-Salem’s lesser-known free resources for healthcare.
As you may have guessed, this event and any other event sponsored by F.R.E.E. is 100% free to attend and everyone is encouraged to bring a friend to share in the free-minded discussions that follow!
